Do you have a cherished number plate ?

Postby OO58RON » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:10 pm

I have noticed that a awful lot of the forum members have cherished/personal number plates. I was curious as to whether the majority have or not.

While I have voted no, I would say that they are a really good investment and often appreciate in value.
Usually, the ones that "spell" something rather than three random letters at the end (usually the person's initials) are much more desirable.

Obviously, you shouldn't tinker with the spacing and / or the plate fixings to turn a letter / number into something else :eusa-whistle: , although the best plate I have ever seen was on a Ferrari (what else  ).
Close up it looked like it should spell something, although you really couldn't make any word / sense of it.
Once the car got to a certain distance in front, the plate clearly read "Love J"

Totally an optical illusion and the eye trying to make sense of the spacing, but what an effect

As the RCZ is a company car I haven't got a personal plate on it but have had a few that are close:

RZC
RRZ
RSZ

I have got a private plate on my quattro , it only means something to me and fellow quattro owners so doesn't attract much attention.

I do have a cherished plate. It relates to the RCZ and my girlfriends birthday which I bought it for. Best of both worlds :) used to belong to Daewoo matiz registered in Ireland so I got myself a bargain.

I got my reg for my 21st birthday from my parents as I wasn't really a girl that was into bling ..... J1DLH (only bought a J because it was going on a J reg Clio at that point). After that my Dad said he quite fancied one .... got J1DKH ... did look pretty cool when we had practically matching 306s:

Then I bought a plate for my OH for his Xmas one year SB04STY - his surname is Boast :) . The old RX8, what a bonny motor....

I've bought one for when we take delivery of our RCZ in March - My wife's 2 initials + her year of birth + my three initials. Won't mean a thing to anyone else, but she's well chuffed.

Seems that I was correct the majority of RCZ's do in fact have cherished number plates attached to them. I can't see this changing by more votes being cast either. I'm a little surprised that there are not more personal to the car though. RCZ does lend itself to being attached to a plate on these cars and we have a few members that have done so.

We will be looking for a private plate for our RCZ, I also have one on my own car which my wife got me for my 40th birthday. 111FSX - *cough* F'ing Sexy' , everyone always asks what the FSX stands for and they always chuckle when I tell them what it means (well to me anyway). Having said that I was in a Morrison's car park once when this guy walked past the back of the car and shouted "are you a fan of Microsoft Flight Simulator X or something ?", he was clearly a pilot himself as he was in his work/airline uniform lol.

Not sure what we will get for the RCZ, but it won't be specific to the RCZ, ie includes RCZ letters in the reg as we will want to transfer it to another car at a later date.

oh dear Ron, don't you read what I write ? Are men's eyes like their ears i.e. 'selective'? :eusa-whistle: I said I got my reg plate for my 21st .... that's 15 years ago .... hard to believe but there you go   so unless I was having some sort of premonition, I might have looked a bit daft with J1RCZ ;)

Donna the point that I was making is that your plate is personnel to you. As are the majority that have voted. However I suspect that there are a lot out there with plates similar to this for example GB61 RCZ

RCZ = V3 KRH
Astra SRi (sons) = V3 CRH
Wifes plate on retention with DVLA = V3 VLH
Astra LS (my work car) = standard plate, but should say "give me a push please" :?

Its a personal thing but i would rather have a plate that connects to the owner rather than the car.
