What wax and sealants have you tried

Postby BespokeCarCare » Fri Oct 14, 2011 5:01 pm

Hi all

Just interested to see what wax and sealants you have used on your cars past and present and what you have found the easiest to apply and remove, also what gave your car the best look.

Regards

Mmm, interesting question and I would be interested to have your take on this Lee.

Waxes I've used:
Dodo Orange Crush, Banana Armour, Supernatural and Purple Haze Pro ( nice to apply - OC looks good on red)
Victoria Concours (great on red and black - lovely wet look for less than £20)
Zymol Concours ( my favourite)
Collinite 476 (didn't like this one bit)

Sealants:
Gtechniq C2
Chemical Guys Jet Seal 109
Chemical Guys Blacklight
Werkstat Acrylic kit (easy to use and apply extra layers and looks great on White or any metallic / pearlescent paints - makes the flake really pop )
Wolf Chemicals Body Wrap ( my favourite on black and White, has phenomenal water sheeting abilities and a great shine)

I do like trying different waxes and sealants, as you can probably tell :D
I like sealants for their ease of use and easy to top up but then again I do enjoy the process of applying a wax, especially with your bare hands

Where do I start used to use autoglym then on to meguiars gold class then blackfire midnightsun and appf . After that tried Blackhole and Gloss-it now onto Wolfs bodywrap. Not sure which I find best on Nera Black its between Wolfs and Blackfire appf. Has anybody tried Gtechniq C1 or Menzerna powerlock

Lee has used C1, obviously. The Menzerna Powerlock is being mentioned quite a bit in competition to Wolf's Body Wrap so going to be interesting how it goes. Don't think durability is as good as Wolf's but if you like to apply new stuff regularly, it's not a problem.

I like the bodywrap but its very dependant on temperature when applying, I also am not a fan off QDs with the black paint. The nanobathe is good and beading and watersheeting propertys are also amazing.

Have you had issues with QDs on black paint? I find them useful especially on black.

Do you snow foam Jim? theres some discussion that you don't need to with Wolf's as it temporarily affects beading. I still am but not seeing a drop in beading but then again alot of People didn't use Shine and Seal underneath which could be a factor?

I usually use the carnauba and synthetic wax and sealant material for waxing car. They are good and affordable in price and it shines your car very well. Its shiny effect will be long lasting. So i will suggest carnauba and synthetic material.

Waxes i've used.

Autoglym HD WAX
Collinite 476S
Various liquid Meguiars

I love the collinite although it take a few tires to get it working well and get used to applying

Sealant
Gtechniq C2
Werkstat Acrylic kit

I like it both. Simply to put and simply to reapply. Very good result on my LaPerla

Want to try Wolf's.

Generally, I'm an AG guy, but would admit that I'm no expert. I find all the different claims, advertising and advice a bit confusing.

I sometimes can't help asking myself if this is like arguing about hi-fi, that is: it's all subjective?

I have tried every polish and sealer you can think of, my garage looks like Halfords. A month ago I used Bilthambers cleanser polish and loved the result I have now followed that up with their Hydra Wax, amazing result, the best shine I have ever had on a car and so simple to use, effortless.

Always use collinate insulator wax i known it's a bit unusual its basically a liquid form of there wax but its easy to put on and remove last about 8 to 9 months no matter what shampoo u use to wash car almost indestructible and great for paint protection in winter conditions so u'll only need to apply twice a year and when u wash car use poorboys QD+ to bring back that just waxed look saves u spending 4 hours every 2 months waxing ur car unless u really enjoy spending ur free time and money waxing on a Saturday although I always buy cars with solid paint so have never used on metallic

I've been toying with the idea of buying some of this to use on my alloys, since it won Autoexpress best wheel sealant product. Is not strictly a wheel sealant but does seem like good stuff. Have you ever used it on your alloys and if you have how long did it last?

Use it on everything best 2 take alloys of and give all exterior and inside 2 good coats should do a year will keep rims spotless with minimum effort sounds like alot of work but really worth while as they'll clean with just hose no real need 4 any cleaners really is a top quality product I bought of eBay for £12 and still have 1\2 a bottle left after 2 years
