Coolant pipe snagging on driveshaft

My RCZ R is having a routine service and the garage has called to say they have found a coolant pipe is up against a driveshaft. Although it hasn't been damaged yet, I am told it could wear through at any moment and dump out all the coolant under pressure.

They are trying to get permission to sort it under warranty.

Anyone know if this is a design issue, or how the problem might have arisen?

This is the first time I’ve heard of this issue. Clearly the pipe wouldn’t have been installed rubbing against the drive shaft, otherwise we would have all had the same problem st some point, so it must have come free from some sort of fastener, clip, etc, which has allowed it to move to a dangerous position. I’m surprised they need to “get permission” to sort it under warranty as it is obviously a safety issue.

No doubt they will get permission, but it would be good to know what has caused the problem to occur :eusa-think:

Hi we have had a similar issue with my wife's Mini Cooper S (same engine as RCZ) we had it in to a mini specialist for the timing chain replacement and upon receiving the car back there were a loud knocking from under the car just after you come off the gas to cut a long story short it was traced to an air conditioning coolant hose which had not been clipped back into place and was rubbing on the driveshaft, the mini guys said they hadn't seen this happen before and they had done cars which had had the clip missing and had never had them touch the driveshaft anyway back in clip all is well so I would expect it to be a simple fix for you which of course should be done under warranty :thumbup:

Tia2 is a 2013 RCZ Magnetic in Black with a 2litre diesel engine
Upgraded Peugeot sat-nav now has 7 digit postcode, safety alerts and updated maps
Other mods include door catch covers, rcz puddle lights, quad exhaust tips
Tia3 is a 2015 RCZ-R in Mercury Grey with a 1.6litre petrol engine, oh and 270 bhp
Other mods include door catch covers, rcz puddle lights
Both have dash cams front and back

The extended warranty covered the driveshaft seal and the labour but not the cost of the replacement pipe itself. If it had been within the first three years it would all have been covered. Seems pipes are not included under extended warranty, regardless of why they are replaced. However, Peugeot agreed to contribute 35% of the cost. Request for photos came after garage was shut and I was out of the country the next day, back yesterday in time to pick up the car. Service cost (87,500 miles) was about £350 and it came to about £450 with the extra work.
