Depends if you are talking new or not - I know it's not new or indeed even in the same target sector of the market but for circa £30k I think I'd rather have an ally bodied XKR (preferably in full Portfolio spec) - IMO looks better, definitely has more toys, more comfort for day-day use/long journeys and more power, although admittedly no 4WD, automatic (although with paddle shift) and perhaps not quite as much fun down a twisty B-road...! I know which one I'd want to live with long-term (and yes I know I'm biased! :D)

http://www.chilternjag.co.uk/used-cars/ ... 2261266885

There are also 5.0L cars with 510BHP on Autotrader for circa £30k (this one has just over 20k miles, barely run in!) or perhaps in black

My point being, if you don't HAVE to buy brand new and have that sort of £ to spend, there are some seriously (more) interesting cars out there for around the £30k mark if you cast your net wide... Like this AM Vantage or THIS BLACK BEAUTY

Clearly though you have to be able to afford to run it too ;)

Yeah.......running costs/repairs on THEM car's would be horrendous.....love the Aston........Jag old hat.........that Focus will be faster than both, cheaper to run, cheaper to road tax, cheaper to service...etc and most of all, far more modern/reliable and is marketed at a diiferent age group than the cars you mention above.

l wouldnt buy the MK3 RS Focus either, that MK3 VERSION WONT HOLD ITS VALUE AS MUCH AS THE MK2 RS has........plus the MK2 RS Focus still looks better IMO.........As for a 350bhp output :eusa-think: thought it was around 315bhp.....leaving space for a special MK3 RS Focus 500,Anyhow it should be cracking beast to drive....and l dont see it costing any less than £34/35k at launch.......

LOL how could you possibly know if it will not hold its value when its not even on sale until late 2016, they said the Mk 2 wouldn't but it did you will still pay £20k plus for a good one, as you have said there is a waiting list already for it so im guessing demand with outstrip supply?
A Vehicle worth 60% of its value after 3 years is deemed at holding its value?

I think we are on sticky ground pointing fingers and saying residual value.......

I priced my Z up with all the extras and options, it would have come to nearly £32 K retail new. I paid £18 K for it 11 months old. :eusa-think:

Just sayin :eusa-whistle:

That's what I call a bargain! Personally I couldn't care less about residuals - I'm buying a car because I like it and I want to drive that particular car, not based on how much I may or may not lose on it... that logic followed to the extreme = don't buy a car as they cost you £... I think once accepts that at the specialist/high performance end of the market you're going to get bigger depreciation than a nice safe Audi/VW diesel say anyway... c'est la vie! :eusa-think: I also struggle with the idea of paying to driving it off forecourt and watch it halve in value instantly, rather get an v low mileage car/ex demo... I know it's nice to have a brand new car, but the principal just annoys me!

The MK3 ST of which i owned, retailed £28,500 fully loaded,23 months later with 20k miles sold for £16k very lucky to get that, book price £14800.....09/10 PLATES...MK2 RS's...20k plus......Why...... MK2's are far more desirable full stop,Ford...RS/Fans/Clans LOVE them.............and hate The MK3.......desire=DEMAND...and it wont change...waiting list are just that....l saw a MK2 Focus RS500 4 MONTHS AGO..........it was up for £45,000...600 miles on the clock.

The MK3 RS is a world car........and as such :eusa-whistle: less exclusive/amercanised

With all due respect an ST3 is not in the same league as an RS ? ST's are 10 a penny round here so not exclusive as for an RS lucky to see 1 a week.
Agreed a global car might make a difference, but it still has that magical "RS" badge on the back?

Good point , but one of the gripes about the Mk2 was it was only available in a 3 door , people would like the option? Except the new one doesnt give that either ?

Yeah that's funny, it was my main bugbear! especially the round KA light. I went with my son who already has a mk3 Focus St, the RS is definitely on the radar now! we was fortunate to have a personal showing which was excellent, managed to get some interior pics as well... got power confirmed at 350bhp!

350BHP...oooft!! You're not going to get more bang for your buck for the money of the RS. It's certainly a bit more grown up than the last incarnation and you know it'll be awesome to drive.

"Ka light"...it TOTALLY is!!

I'd love to see your interior pics if you don't mind sharing?

Mustang V8, 33k. Clearly my choise if I were to go down Ford's path. My next choice will be next year: a Jag XE (with proper jag petrol engine) or the Alfa Giulia.

Sadly that just isn't practical enough for me. That said, I am not even going to change my car for a number of years yet!! I'm quite liking the new top of the range Alfa Giulia too...although it has a terrible name!!

So here it is at Goodwood but watch the Mustang video first. It's more than a bit lairy. I foresee many many of these ending up in ditches/trees/fields etc...(sounds awesome though).

 it does look rather as though it has suicidal tendencies. Perhaps it wasn't give many hugs by its robot arms as it was growing up.
