Asphalt paint

Postby Alycats » Wed Nov 16, 2011 9:22 pm

Can anyone tell me about the special paint on the Asphalt limited edition? I have a Pearl (Oct 2010) 156 GT, 5500 miles but am being given a good deal on trading in for the Asphalt. I love my Pearl and am a little hesitant on changing purely because of the paint. Love the up spec compared to mine and am being told by salesman that it will hold its value much better (probably true). Choices choices but worried about the paint. :helpme:

Well the Asphalt paint is matt and therefore you need special products to look after it. You can't polish it, you need special shampoo and there are specific waxes for matt paints. I do believe the Asphalt comes with a car care protection kit containing all the products you need. Things like bird droppings have to be removed immediately, as with all cars, but it's even more important in this case. Bird droppings will etch Into the paintwork if left and leave marks that are almost impossible to remove. I don't want to put you off but I believe it will take a lot of upkeep over the coming weeks, months, years.

Hi Alycats welcome to the forum

Peugeot do give some very specific instructions/warnings regarding the paint, I've copied them for you:

"Never clean the paint without water
Never use an automatic car wash with brushes or rollers
Never polish the vehicle or the alloy wheels. This will cause polished areas to appear in the paint
Never use paint cleaners, abrasive products or polishes or high gloss paint protection products (wax for example). These products are only suitable for non matt finishes. Using them on a vehicle with a matt finish will seriously damage the painted surface of the vehicle and in particular will cause IRREVERSIBLE staining or polished areas to appear.
Do not use high pressure jet wash lances fitted with brushes, they may scratch the paint
Never select a wash programme that finishes with a hot wax

Never wash the vehicle using any abrasive cleaning equipment (cleaning brushes, household sponges etc) always use a high pressure jet was and cleaning materials made of soft, non abrasive materials (micro fibre, clean chamois leather etc)
Do not polish, nor apply wax, nor use abrasive household cleaners
Do not rub off deposits of any kind (bird droppings, insects, tar etc) but soak them with the appropriate cleaner to soften them and make their removal easier"

Peugeot give each Asphalt customer a very nice kit containing Peugeot approved shampoo, insect remover, tar remover, adhesive remover, micro fibre cloths, chamois leather...products from their own boutique range.

There is also another thing to be aware of , if you get a scratch it cannot be polished out as the polishing will remove the matt effect the only option is to live wiith it or get the affected panel repainted.

I love mine. I've posted some pics of it here:

I found the info on paint very helpful. I posted somewhere else on the Forum (not use to it yet) as a very recent Asphalt owner I hadn't given much thought to looking after the paint... I will now though !
